The quality of the dental work was excellent. However, I am very disappointed in the manner in which Tualatin Dental conducted the financial aspects of my appointment.
1. Upon completion of the appointment, at check out, I was informed that my insurance did not cover $91 of the procedure. This was a surprise to me, so I inquired about the charge. I was informed that the charge was because I received white fillings versus silver fillings and that my insurance considered the white fillings cosmetic. This is fine and obviously up to the insurance company and not Tualatin Dental. I am disappointed however, that no one at Tualatin Dental every discussed with me my options for the fillings. I was never informed that I would be receiving white fillings nor that the white fillings were an extra charge. This was never discussed with me back in July when the need for fillings was first determined, nor was it discussed before the procedure began. In July I did sign a document consenting to the procedure, but this signature was simply on an electronic signature pad so I never saw any paperwork showing me what the charge would be. I have several silver fillings already, so having more silver fillings would not have been an issue and I would have much rather saved the $91. The $91 is not an issue and I do appreciate your willingness to bill me for this charge and not require payment immediately. I am disappointed however in your process and the fact that my options were never discussed with me.
2. At the beginning of the appointment I was asked if I would like Nitrous for the procedure. I have used Nitrous in the past due to anxiety over shots/needles, so I gladly accepted the Nitrous offer. The Nitrous worked well and I had no issues during the procedure. At the end of the procedure however, as I was being walked out, the assistant was looking through my file and said "I see that you haven't used Nitrous in a while, we now have a $45 charge for Nitrous." This was obviously a surprise to me as I had never been charged for Nitrous in the past. I was very disappointed to find out about this charge only after the procedure. I am thankful and appreciative that when challenged on the charge you agreed to waive the $45 fee. However, these two instances show a clear pattern of Tualatin Dental being a bit reckless with the financial aspects of the dental care I received.
I assume that these two instances although related are isolated, but would ask that in the future that Tualatin Dental be more diligent in explaining charges to your patients before the procedure and not after the fact.
Again, the level of care I have received at Tualatin Dental has been excellent and I thank you for that.
