This customer did have many problems with his truck but we in fact did NOT rebuild his engine or cause any of his problems. His 1989 pick up truck came in on a flat bed, not running. After we installed a Head Gasket and did other necessary repairs for it to stay running, other problems surfaced. We talked to this customer and covered all the possible outcomes extensively before we started work. It is hard to predict what else may be wrong when we try to repair a old high millage car. Our company had no previous history with this truck. Given the known facts and after discussing all the options and getting permission we proceeded to replace the head gasket, this alone took weeks because the owner did not want to spend any money. The Emissions problems were from old Carburetor and the condition of the engine rings leaking past the rings. After driving with the engine under load and at operating tempters other problems show up. It got towed back 20 days later with a battery dead the alternator had stopped working and the Carburetor had to be removed as the butterfly fell into the bottom and we worked on that without charge. After 20 days it came back again engine the rings were so badly working that the engine blew oil back out the air intake, and literally dripped out the air box. We don't have a crystal ball but knew that someone had put a timing chain on it and since the block was painted blue one could guess the rings and other work must have been done. We just did not know that all previous work was done badly. Finally, on last visit, the customer was told that he had to keep oil in it and not to let it overheat as the radiator was seeping by that time (result of earlier overheating). As stated we did not rebuild this engine, if we had it would have passed emissions the first time and not had problems.
