I like the spa and use it for a massage whenever I stay at The Rosewood.
I usually get Maria, and scheduled her weeks in advance of my visit. She called in sick the day of my appointment and I ended up with Rxxx. (I'll leave her anonymous, just in case this gets published verbatim. (No desire to embarrass, simply to let management know the need to train staff better.). She was good, but by no means great. With attitude problems which exacerbated the situation. When I suggested a way to get at a particular muscle area which was hurting me, she told me that it was "tough on her thumbs" and, with an indignant air, that she has been doing massage for 10 years. She did something which was not at all effective and then announced "that seems to have done it" when in fact it did not. At all.
The experience threw off the karmic relaxation I look for in a massage session. I am experienced in getting bodywork, and my suggestions -- especially when minimal and focused, as this time -- ought generally simply be followed.
As a guy who often tips more like 30% than 15-20%, I know how to express appreciation for good service. This time it fell short of the mark.
That I have had better experiences there leads me to give you an 8 below. Otherwise it would be lower by a bit. Yet can't go above 3 stars after this most recent visit.
