I believe a patient should be able to be involved in their treatment. As a student graduating from nursing school in April, I have had interactions with many patients, their treatment plans and their physicians. I believe it is the doctors job to facilitate the treatment plan the patient wants and not to dictate what should and should not happen. I appreciate the time taken on my treatment, but I feel very upset and I left in tears over the condition of my teeth and someone telling me I could not do what I wished. I take the suggestion into account and understand the dentist felt it was unethical to pull my teeth at my age and put dentures in. However, is it also not unethical to refuse treatment and not listen to your patients? I am young, yes, but looking over what procedures I have had already, and what you recommended for me, it is ridiculous to pay that amount of money when I could get dentures. It is simply a better option for me. I feel my treatment today was unethical and left me feeling very upset. As long as I am not putting my health or safety in jeopardy, I should have been allowed to have my needs met. I do feel it was a positive experience in the long run because it will serve as a reminder for me to always listen to my patients and prioritize their needs and wishes.
