My glasses broke so I stopped by to see if they could be fixed. Even though I had no appointment, they were able to assist me. Always very friendly and helpful.

Service is ok but it takes weeks before glasses are ready.
Cary Family Eye Care replied:
We are sorry that our delivery time on your glasses was unacceptable. We strive to have any orders ready within 7-10 business days. On a rare occasion, a pair of lenses will not pass inspection due to an error made in fabrication. We take the quality of our products seriously, and will not dispense a pair of glasses that do not meet our quality standards. If your order was significantly delayed, this may have been the reason. That said, you have every right to expect timely delivery of your order. We sincerely apologize and will do our best to provide better service in the future.

From the warm greeting I received upon entering, to Rhonda's explanation of the machines and patience with my questions, to Dr Barnes thorough exam and much needed correction of my vision, to Marianne's expertise helping me pick out frames that I'll maybe actually wear this time...my Cary Family Eye experience was top notch and I can't wait to wear my glasses and tell my friends what a great job they did. Thanks to all! I'll see you again soon.

First experience and found the staff very professional and patient. They were eager to help me find just what I needed in frames and finishes.

Both of the Barnes optometrists are very friendly and easy to work with, as is the staff at the front desk. Unfortunately, the girl who sells the glasses is not. The glasses are priced very high and I typicallly go elsewhere to buy them. The last time I was in (April 2013), I asked her to measure the pulliary distance (which is needed if you order glasses online), she responded in a very curt tone, "I can do it but I can't guarantee it, and you can't hold me accountable if it isn't right". Guess what, it wasn't correct! I went to another optometrist and she hadn't measured it accurately. I don't know if she is paid on commission, or what, but a similar experience happened to me last year. The Barnes's need to evaluate this situation if they expect to stay in business.
Cary Family Eye Care replied:
We sincerely apologize that you did not have a good experience at our office. Our goal is to always give patients the best care and products available. When a patient requests their pupillary distance, they typically are considering ordering glasses online. Several of our patients have had negative experiences with online glasses vendors. So out of necessity we have learned to warn patients beforehand that we cannot be responsible for errors in fabrication. Apparently this sentiment was not expressed clearly and we do apologize. The person who assisted you in our optical is a NC licensed optician who has proven her ability to obtain accurate optical measurements. Since internet vendors do not actually meet with you in person they are unable to provide measurements, unbiased advice based on your needs, and skillful adjustments of the frame and lenses. Your pupillary distance is typically measured by the optician selling the glasses, not the prescribing office, but when requested we will measure it as a courtesy. I assure you no one in our office is paid on commission. We feel it shifts the focus from what's best for the patient to up-selling. Our entire team has discussed this issue in order to more clearly address this situation if it occurs again in the future. We will strive to exceed your expectations at your next visit.

I've had scheduling trouble the last three times I have made an appointment. It's frustrating to have appointment times changed and canceled the day of an expected massage, particularly when you've arranged your work day and child care schedules accordingly. I do hope these kinks are resolved now. If not, I don't believe I'll continue my membership.read more …
