I have a 2006 BMW 325i. It had an issue with a the airbag and warning light coming on. I drove it in to the BMW dealership in Tampa. The diagnosis from the dealership was:
1) You need to replace the battery - $600+ (I had put a new battery in the car 6 months earlier and it was under warranty so I picked up a new battery and brought it to them. Once they got the new battery in they told me that was bad too).
2) The transmission is leaking and needs to be repaired - $1000. They told me if I did not get it taken care of I'm looking at a possible $7000 repair.
3) Got a call saying that if I did not have bad luck I would not have any luck at all. Now my starter was bad and needed to be replaced - $800+ oh and that was with "my discount". They told me they tried to jump start my car but it would not start.
At this point they had the car for a week and something did not feel right so I sent a flatbed to the dealership and towed the car to Auto Works of Brandon. Even though the dealership did not repair anything and I drove a perfectly healthy car into the dealership and needed to tow it out they charged me $184.
Literally 30 seconds after the car was off the flatbed Auto Works had the car started and running. They listened to my issues, tested and worked on the car. It turns out the problem was a corroded Battery Safety Terminal. They cleaned it a reconnected it. They retested everything and the car now tests perfectly. The warning lights are fixed, the battery is perfect. They also looked at the transmission. It is seeping a little bit. However there is a BMW bulletin on this problem that says it is a sleeve issue not a transmission issue. They also thought is was such a small seep that it was not something to worry about at this time. They quoted me 3 hours of labor to track and fix the problem. Once they were done they could have easily charged me for 3 hours, told me the transmission and starter were shot but they did not. They charged me only for 2 hours of labor with no parts at all. The car is running great now. If you are looking for a trustworthy, knowledgeable, friendly repair shop this is where you want to go.
