I had an 11:00 AM appointment, came early to fill out my new patient paperwork, and was not taken back to the exam room until after 11:30. This was a problem, because I came over my lunch break and didn't plan to be there much more than an hour; it was closer to 2 hours by the time they were done.
Because I was a new patient I had to start the exam with full x-rays. I have a somewhat small mouth so this is always a bit difficult, but this particular hygeniest could not seem to get the film holder in my mouth, in any position, without hurting me. Some were so painful I couldn't hold it for the time required to get the x-ray. Although I told her this, she kept just putting it back in the same way. I left with a cut and sore on the bottom of my mouth that took more than a week to heal.
Although the dentist - Dr. Carl - was friendly enough, the fact that they were running late was obvious, the cleaning was brisk and at times a bit rough and the hygeniest didn't even floss my teeth. They also forced me to use flouride, saying that it was necessary for my teeth (I had one cavity) and that my insurance would cover part of it - it didn't - and pushed through my protestation that it wasn't a covered treatment.
All-in-all my experience was okay at best, and I'm not sure whether or not I will be back. Finding a good dentist has been the most difficult part of transferring my health care to Chicago, and give the reviews of River North I had read online, I was disappointed with the level of service I received.
