As soon as we walked in the door we were greeted and immediately checked in. The staff was fantastic and really helped put my daughter at ease.

My daughter just had an appointment for a cleaning, and she normally has Dr. Shapiro, whom I would highly recommend. Dr. Shapiro always explains everything that's being done, shows me my daughter's x-rays and explains what I am looking at. This time, the hygienist was the one that told me that they were replacing a sealant that was worn because a female, Asian dentist checked my daughter's teeth, and she did not speak to me at all! When she was finished with my daughter, she jumped up and moved on to the next patient. She ran out to tell me a sealant was replaced while I was out at the desk scheduling my daughter's next cleaning appointment. Very Disappointing, as Dr. Shapiro, his hygienists and office staff are so nice and welcoming that my daughter does not mind coming to the dentist at all; however, this woman was so impersonal that my daughter even commented that she hoped she had Dr. Shapiro on her next visit.

My seven-year-old son went in for a cavity and the staff was so helpful and calming. They had him in the chair within five minutes of us arriving. I especially appreciated that they talked him through the entire procedure so he knew what to expect and continued to explain what was happening as they went along.

The dental work was done well and both the hygentist and dentist talked my daughter through the cavity fillings. I was concerned to see the dentist touch the mouse and spacebar twice with a gloved hand and then put it into my daughter's mouth. This type of practice is unsanitary and unsafe. The dentist is not our normal dentist and did not come into the room and introduce herself to me. Rather, she only addressed my daughter. She did answer my questions and talk to me throughout the procedure. I had to ask the office staff what her name was...Dr. Christie. Her work was fine, as far as I know. I would prefer her to slow down and take proper procedure for sanitation and addressing worried parents better. I have worked with Dr. Sheena before and she is kind, patient and considerate to both me and my daughters.

Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics of Maryland Elkton replied:

An introduction is a very good topic to bring to the Dr.'s attention, as we should have them introduce themselves to all patients/parents when entering the operatory. The keyboards in the operatories are not barrier protected but they are wiped down after each patient with a disinfectant/sanitizing solution, by the assistant. It is a part of proper sanitization procedure once a patient leaves the operatory.

We are always striving to bring better Customer Service to our patients. As Office Manager my door is always open to our parents and I encourage you stop in and see me in the future if you have any concerns about your appointment experience.

Dr. Shapiro and staff are awesome. They really accommodate children and make them feel safe/calm in their care.
