I have been wearing the same daily wear contacts for six years. Yesterday when I called to order the contacts, I was told several different things:
1. The were discontinued
2. They are NOT discontinued
3. The cost is $90
4. The cost is $240
5. The manufacturer raised the price
6. We raised our price
Anyway, the contacts have always been $170 for two 90 day packs (one for the left eye and one for the right). I asked why the price had gone up over 30% to $240 since I ordered three months ago, and the explanation was inconsistent. In fact, I was even told that I had always been charged incorrectly for the lenses, and I had never been paying the actual price. I cannot believe that is true because since I paid the same $170 price for three years at your office, and I paid the same price at another Dr.s office for the three years prior.
I understand that prices can go up, but I would NOT expect a 30% price hike in three months for something that has remained consistent for so long. I believe that your office has raised your profit margin and is attempting to make an increased amount of money from your contact wearing customers. The person that I spoke to even said "we raise OUR prices all the time."
Finally, I was also concerned that instead of openly discussing the price change with me and disclosing why this might have happened, the person was already on the phone with the manufacturer trying to order a cheaper lens. I order those specific lenses because they are the most comfortable I have found and work for me. I do not expect an office worker to choose or recommend a new contact lens that my DR. and I have worked to find.
I was very disappointed that something as easy as ordering new contacts had to become such an ordeal. At the end of the transaction the office worker said (very loudly in front of a waiting room full of other patients) "I will let you have them for your old price this one last time, but next time you have to pay the same price as everyone else." So, I was able to purchase the lenses for $170.00; however, I will now be looking for another Optometrist.
