Gerald actually called to tell me my Jeep didn't need service...Really. They found nothing wrong with the auto and he explained why I wouldn't need to pay for unnecessary work.
I have never had this kind of encounter with a shop--usually I end up paying for repairs above and beyond initial diagnosis.
My wife and I now have a trusted shop to take our autos to when they need service. By the way, I did request some non-essential maintenance work; just to reward their honest approach.
This kind of company philosophy will serve you well, we recommend it.
Thanks, Gerald

Great service, called before completing any repairs and did what they could to keep the cost down. I'll definitely go back.
I chose Gaynor's a few years ago for my 1999 Honda accord. I was nervous because I know nothing about cars and have been taken advantage of in the past by larger companies with a seemingly reputable name. Gaynor's has been the BEST! Specifically the downtown Vancouver location. The staff is incredibly nice and knowledgeable. They let me know what is necessary to get done right away and what I can maybe put off a little while if I need time to save up the money. They have always started with the smaller problems to see if they are the issue instead of going in and replacing a bunch of stuff at once and charging me a ton. They take the time to explain the problems in detail and even show me the part, or area in the car where the malfunction is. I can't say enough good about this place! I will continue to take my car here and all my future vehicles.
While the service was good, the they really fell down on the communication process.
I called prior to bringing my car in, and when I brought it down thirty minutes later, was told that nobody could work on it that day. I made an appointment for first thing the next day, and when I dropped it off, was told I would hear what was going on by mid-morning. I heard nothing, and had to call twice to get any answers - with the final answer that no work would be done during that day, either. I brought it back first thing for a third time, and they got the work done in about 45 minutes - which comprised of reading the codes on my car and telling me what needed to be done for it to pass emissions.
They were good with this, and told me the process I needed to go through for getting the emissions waiver, since my car wouldn't pass without several hundred dollars worth of work. They also provided a clear quote on what it would cost to do that initial testing. However, the "fixing" part - when I finally brought it back for a fourth time inside a week - they did not provide a quote for. Instead, they just did the work - and while I appreciate that they did the "least expensive" option, I would still have liked to been told what they were doing and what it would cost before they were going to do it.
In general, they're nice folk and do the work, but if you're looking for clear communication make sure you go armed with your words at the outset and don't be afraid to give them a call or five as needed.
Excellent communication.
